GIB Inks 2 Agreements With Bangladesh Bank

Global Islami Bank (GIB) has entered into two agreements with the Bangladesh Bank to facilitate credit guarantees for women entrepreneurs and guarantee facilities for the agro-product processing sector. The agreements aim to support the expansion of cottage industries, job creation, and overall economic growth.

Managing Director of GIB, and  Director of the Credit Guarantee Department  at Bangladesh Bank, signed the agreements at the BB headquarters in Motijheel. Under these deals, GIB can access credit guarantee facilities from Bangladesh Bank, enabling the bank to offer collateral-free investments to women entrepreneurs and the agro-processing sector.

Agri Loan Disbursement Falls 6.6%

After interest rates were liberalized in May 2024, agricultural loan rates surged to 15–18%, up from a previous cap of 8%, resulting in a notable decline in disbursements. In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, banks disbursed Tk 22,126 crore in agricultural loans, which is Tk 1,565 crore or 6.60% less than the same period last year.
