The closure of onion imports from India has led to a significant increase in the local onion prices in Hili, Dinajpur. Within a week, the price of onions has risen by Tk 30 per kg. Onions were being sold at Tk 75 per kg, whereas they were priced at Tk 45 per kg the week before. Green chili prices have also risen to Tk 120, up from Tk 90-100 a week ago. Traders at Hili Bazar explained that the approaching Eid-ul-Azha festival has increased the demand for ginger, leading to the sudden price hike of Tk 180 per kg.
