Health and Family Welfare Minister announced on 7 June that the government is launching a plan to digitalize the health sector by providing health cards to all citizens. The project plan, estimated to cost Tk 1500 crore, has been submitted to the Planning Commission for approval. The health cards will serve as a comprehensive system containing citizens’ health information. The minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage.
The government has made significant improvements in the health sector over the past 4.5 years, including the reconstruction of community clinics nationwide, the establishment of intensive care units, and the construction of specialized hospitals for cancer, kidney, heart, and other medical services.
Addressing concerns about corruption at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, the minister assured that the ministry would take the allegations seriously and work towards resolving any irregularities. Additionally, steps are being taken to reform the ambulance service and address the challenges associated with financing private-sector healthcare.
The government’s focus on digitalizing the health sector and improving healthcare services demonstrates its commitment to ensuring accessible and efficient medical services for all citizens.
