The Ministry of Agriculture in Bangladesh is intensifying efforts to ensure food security amidst an economic crisis. Targeting staple crops like rice and wheat, the ministry plans to increase paddy cultivation land by 1.88 lakh hectares, aiming for a rice production goal of 2.23 crore tonnes for the upcoming Boro season. The wheat production target has been raised to 12.28 lakh tonnes. In addition, the ministry focuses on boosting maize production to 67 lakh tonnes, aiming for a three lakh tonnes increase from the previous year. Efforts are also directed towards increasing onion production by 3 lakh tonnes and potato production by 8 lakh tonnes during the Rabi season. The government has allocated Tk600 crore for incentives, raising from Tk500 crore in the previous fiscal year. Fertilizer prices will remain unchanged to alleviate production costs for farmers.
