The government of Bangladesh plans to provide an incentive of nearly Tk 108 crore to 15 lakh small and marginal farmers to encourage increased cultivation of high-yielding varieties of rice. This incentive, provided in the form of seeds and non-urea fertilizers, aims to boost grain production to meet rising demand for the staple.
Each farmer will receive 5 kilograms of rice seeds, 10 kilograms of diammonium phosphate, and muriate of potash for free cultivation on each bigha of land. This initiative, timed just before the boro cultivation season, follows a previous Tk 90 crore incentive to promote hybrid rice cultivation. With this new incentive, the government allocates nearly Tk 200 crore to support boro rice cultivation, as local rice varieties face a decline in acreage.
