Govt Allocates Tk 40.04 Crore to Boost Aman Crop Cultivation

The government is providing Tk40.04 crore to incentivize the expansion and cultivation of the aman crop this year. This initiative will benefit 5.66 lakh small and marginal farmers across 61 districts. Each farmer will receive 5 kg of high yielding variety (HYV) T-aman seed, 10 kg of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), and 10 kg of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer free of cost to cultivate aman paddy on one bigha of land. The funding for these incentives comes from the agriculture rehabilitation assistance and seed and seedlings sector of the regular agriculture ministry’s budget. A government order has been issued, and the field-level distribution of these incentives will commence soon.

Agricultural Loan Disbursement Fell by 7.13%

Agricultural loan disbursement in Bangladesh fell by 7.13% in May 2024 compared to April, according to Bangladesh Bank data. However, from July 2023 to May 2024, there was a 13.65% year-on-year increase in agricultural and rural credit, rising to Tk 332.96 billion from Tk 292.97 billion in the same period the previous year. The outstanding balance with interest on these loans reached Tk 563.31 billion, a 10.32% increase from FY23.
