The government of Bangladesh has given the green light to a new Production Sharing Contract (PSC) model aimed at attracting international oil and gas companies for gas and oil exploration in offshore areas. The “Draft Bangladesh Offshore Model Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2023” was approved, introducing changes to the old formula. Under the new model, the international market price of Brent Crude will determine the gas price, offering foreign companies 10% of the Brent Crude price for 1,000 cubic feet of gas. This model also enhances the cost recovery share for hydrocarbons from shallow sea blocks from 55% to 70%. With the final approval of the draft, state-owned Petrobangla will invite international bidding for hydrocarbon exploration in deep and shallow sea areas.
