The government has instructed Janata Bank to provide a schedule for winding down its subsidiary, Janata Exchange Company (JEC), based in Italy. The Financial Institutions Division (FID) sought information on aspects like the closure timeframe, collateral deposited with the Central Bank of Italy, and the refund process. JEC, with branches in Milan and Rome, has faced losses since 2008, and the central bank advised its closure in July 2023. Janata Bank, with a two-year plan to make JEC profitable, has failed to implement the strategy. The bank now awaits the necessary approval to proceed with the closure formalities.
