The government is launching an initiative to transition from a conventional power grid to a “Smart Grid” system in the coming years. Initially, this smart grid system will be established under the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) and Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC).
To assess the current state of the national grid and utilities and identify the requirements for this new system, the government has enlisted the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a US-based consulting firm, which submitted a report on the “Smart Grid Roadmap for Bangladesh Power Utilities.”
The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is providing $2 million in grant funding for a more comprehensive study, which will help create a roadmap for the transition to a digital and automated smart grid system. This initiative aims to efficiently manage Bangladesh’s growing power system and enhance grid security and stability.
