Govt Establishes National Cyber Security Agency

The government has established the ‘National Cyber Security Agency,’ replacing the previous ‘Digital Security Agency’ as per an official gazette released on November 17, 2023. Mandated under the Cyber Security Act 2023, the new agency is tasked with monitoring online communication and combating cybercrimes.

The Digital Security Agency, formed under prior legislation, is now officially canceled. The Director General of the former agency, expressed anticipation for a fresh start, stating ongoing efforts to revise their structure in alignment with the new regulations.

The Cyber Security Act, approved by the cabinet and passed in Parliament on September 13, 2023, serves as an amended and less controversial replacement for the Digital Security Act 2018.
