The government has gained preliminary approval to secure extended LNG supply contracts from Summit Group and Excelerate Energy, the two existing LNG terminal service providers. Excelerate Energy Bangladesh Ltd plans to supply 1-1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG from 2026 for 15 years, while Summit Oil & Shipping Co Ltd intends to supply 1.5 MTPA for the same duration. Although specific contract details were not disclosed, the move reflects Bangladesh’s effort to address its natural gas shortage and escalating demand. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs granted approval for repair services and water treatment plant construction projects.
