Bangladesh has signed an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to expand and enhance its school feeding program for primary school students. Initially introduced in 2010, the program currently provides free meals to 2.3 million students in 15,000 primary schools across 104 upazilas. With the new agreement, the program will be extended to over 150 upazilas, benefiting 3.7 million students. Additionally, the program will offer fruits, milk, bread, eggs, and other nutritious foods, replacing fortified biscuits. Thanks to the feeding program, the country has experienced a 7.5% decrease in the dropout rate and a 14% increase in enrollment in primary schools. Bangladesh has also joined the School Meals Coalition as the 85th member.
