A high-level taskforce will collaborate with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) to create a roadmap for developing the country’s semiconductor sector, focusing on testing, assembly, and scaling capabilities. The decision was made at a meeting titled “Semiconductors – A New Frontier for the Bangladesh Economy and Employment,” organized by Bida. The taskforce will include industry, academia, diaspora, and government representatives to identify barriers and recommend solutions. Bangladesh currently generates $6 million annually from semiconductor activities, mainly through integrated circuit design. Experts emphasized expanding downstream activities like packaging and assembly. They also recommended updating university curricula, enhancing training, and promoting intellectual property protections to support sector growth.
