The government signed a 15-year LNG supply contract with Summit Group for 1.5 million tonnes per annum starting January 2026. Another deal involves building a 4.5 MTPA floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the third in Bangladesh. Summit’s investment in energy infrastructure will exceed $3.0 billion. The agreements follow cabinet committee approval in December 2023. The LNG supply contract entails a 15-year commitment starting in 2026, with LNG prices pegged at around 13% of the three-month average Brent crude price. These agreements mark the fourth in a series since June 2023, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2026. Summit’s subsidiary will construct the new FSRU. The existing FSRU’s operation ceased due to damage from cyclone Remal. Summit Group is exploring partnerships for LNG supply, with plans for Bangladesh’s first onshore LNG terminal at Matarbari island.
