The government plans to acquire additional land in Sonagazi upazila of Feni to construct four combined cycle power plants, along with a solar and wind power plant, to meet the growing energy demand from economic zones like Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar. Each combined cycle power plant will have a 600MW capacity, while the solar and wind power plants will have capacities of 100MW and 24MW, respectively. Currently, a 75MW solar-based power plant is under construction in Sonagazi. These new power plants aim to provide electricity to the Shilpa Nagar economic zone. The state-run Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB) is overseeing the projects, with land acquisition underway. The solar power plant will be developed in collaboration with Singapore-based company Hero Asia Singapore. The new plants will be constructed in phases based on government priorities.
