The government plans to purchase one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market in February 2024, marking the third spot LNG import for the year. State-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) issued a tender for delivery on February 6-7 at either of the country’s FSRUs on Moheshkhali island.
RPGCL, a Petrobangla subsidiary, oversees LNG trading in Bangladesh. Despite payment delays, the country remains committed to LNG imports from both long-term and spot suppliers. In January, two LNG cargoes are scheduled for delivery from the spot market, and Bangladesh had previously awarded a spot LNG cargo to Excelerate Energy LP for mid-January delivery.
