The government has announced plans to procure an additional 0.2 million (2 lakh) tonnes of Aman rice during the current Aman season of 2023. Of this quantity, 0.15 million tonnes will be boiled rice, while the remaining 50,000 tonnes will be Atap rice, as per a PID handout issued on 12th December,2023. The additional allocation will be granted to mills that have previously signed agreements during the current Aman procurement season 2023-24. The Food Ministry has been instructed to complete the procurement drive by February next year. Earlier, on October 08, the government had set a target to procure 0.7 million tonnes of paddy and rice from marginal farmers across the country in the ongoing Aman season.
