The interim government plans to accelerate the implementation of ongoing development projects to counter the economic slowdown, said Planning Adviser Prof Wahiduddin Mahmud. Amid political turmoil, labour unrest, high inflation, and expensive loans deterring private investments, the adviser emphasized policy adjustments and swift project execution by fiscal year-end. Development spending hit a 14-year low in July-October, prompting directives to ministries for faster execution. Mahmud highlighted private sector stagnation, rising interest rates, and cases of project mismanagement like Matarbari. While hinting at potential ADP cuts, he prioritized education and health allocations. Ecnec approved five projects worth Tk 5,915 crore, including Chattogram’s sewerage system.
