The government has sought $250 million from the World Bank (WB) to rehabilitate flood-affected regions in Bangladesh’s north and southeast, following devastating August floods. The Economic Relations Division (ERD) requested the funds to repair damaged roads, bridges, educational institutions, and riverbanks, and to support livelihoods. Of the proposed amount, $185 million will be allocated for rural infrastructure, $55 million for water resource management, and $10 million for micro-credit programs. The floods displaced over 500,000 people, affected 5.8 million, and caused significant losses, including $122 million in fisheries and $34 million in livestock. The government has also approached other partners, like the ADB and Japan, for additional assistance. WB financing is expected by March 2025.
