State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources has requested the World Bank’s (WB) collaboration in constructing power transmission lines from Nepal to Bangladesh for exporting electricity during winter. The minister discussed this proposal and other matters of mutual interest with the World Bank’s regional director of South Asia Infrastructure. They deliberated on topics like energy security, cross-border electricity trade, renewable energy, gas pipelines, and more. The World Bank expressed its eagerness to partner with Bangladesh on energy-related projects, including those involving renewable energy and energy efficiency. The state minister also highlighted ongoing initiatives such as setting up a power hub and upgrading the transmission system.
