Bangladesh plans to import three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the spot market in May to address rising demand during the summer. State-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) issued tenders for deliveries on May 4-5, May 9-10, and May 14-15. This marks a 25% decrease from April’s four scheduled imports.
Additionally, Bangladesh intends to import six LNG cargoes from long-term suppliers QatarEnergy and OQ Trading in May. RPGCL, a subsidiary of Petrobangla, oversees LNG trading. The spot cargoes will be delivered by Excelerate Energy LP, Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd, and Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, with volumes around 3.36 million MMBtu each. Bangladesh aims to import 24 spot LNG cargoes in 2024, compared to 23 in 2023, subject to favorable pricing conditions. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has approved importing 13 LNG cargoes in the first half of 2024.
