Govt to import 1.5 million tonnes of Crude oil

Industry: Energy & Power, Oil & Petroleum

Bangladesh is set to import 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil for the year 2024, with approval granted in principle by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The decision, presented by the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, involves direct procurement without a competitive bidding process. Saudi Aramco and UAE-based Adnoc will supply the crude petroleum.

Notably, the proposal did not specify the cost or price of the petroleum, as it received initial approval. Bangladesh’s annual petroleum oil import requirement stands at around 6.5 million tonnes, comprising 1.5 million tonnes of crude and the remainder as refined petroleum. In addition to the oil-related decision, the Cabinet body also granted in-principle approval for a private company to manage and maintain the “Vision 2041 Smart Tower” in Kawranbazar, Dhaka, under the “Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Eco-System” project.
