The government announced that they will be importing 50,000 tonnes of sugar and 20,000 tonnes of onions from India for the upcoming month of Ramadan. The State Minister for Commerce confirmed this decision and said that he had secured consent from the Indian commerce minister for the import. The price of early harvested onions has already increased by Tk 20 per kg in the markets of Dhaka. To facilitate the import, the Ministry of Commerce sent a letter to the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The sugar and onions are expected to arrive in Bangladesh before the start of Ramadan.
