Govt to Introduce Minimum Wage for Workers in 15 Sectors

Economic Tag: Govt., Income

The government is introducing minimum wage structures for workers in 15 sectors to promote formalization and ensure legal benefits. These sectors include private clinics, hospitals, fertiliser factories, brickfields, poultry, and more. Wage boards have been formed for four sectors: ceramic, cement, battery, and poultry. Once implemented, the wage structure will provide workers with legal protections and prevent employers from offering lower wages. Experts, including Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmmed, support the move, but stress that wage determinations should consider factors like the cost of living and industry capacity. Some wage boards are still awaiting workers’ representatives.
