The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is planning a Tk 1,133 crore project to import 340 buses and equipment from South Korea. The Korean government will provide Tk 829 crore in loans, with the remaining funding from the Bangladesh government. The project aims to have the buses on the road by June next year, addressing the need for more public transport in Dhaka and other areas. BRTC currently operates 1,250 buses out of a fleet of 1,350, with some buses beyond repair. The new buses will run on CNG, with 140 single-decker AC buses designated for Dhaka city and 200 single-decker inter-city AC buses for other routes. Spare parts and accessories will also be imported to ensure efficient operation and maintenance. This initiative aligns with infrastructure projects like the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, which aims to improve transportation in the region.
