The Commerce Ministry in Bangladesh is set to purchase essential food items, including 50 lakh litres of soybean oil and 27,000 tonnes of lentils, to be sold at affordable prices for low-income groups. The Cabinet Committee on Purchase, headed by Finance Minister , approved proposals amounting to Tk 344 crore for this procurement. The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will locally purchase soybean oil (50 lakh litres) for Tk 77.14 crore and lentils (6,000 tonnes) for Tk 60.59 crore through open tender methods. Additionally, the TCB will buy 11,000 tonnes of lentils locally from Global Corporation and Traders for Tk 110 crore, and import 10,000 tonnes from Turkey for Tk 97 crore. The government has initiated this effort to stabilize commodity prices, especially for low-income consumers.
