The interim government of Bangladesh plans to review MoUs signed with India during the previous administration, including a recent rail transit deal. Foreign Adviser Towhid Hossain emphasized that such reviews are routine to ensure national interests are upheld. He also discussed the potential extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in self-exile in India. If a court orders her return, the government will seek her extradition, although India’s legal process will play a role.
Hossain addressed the absence of Indian contractors from Line of Credit (LoC) projects, citing safety concerns during recent unrest, but expressed hope they would resume work soon. He also welcomed Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s positive remarks about cooperating with the new government. Regarding international relations, Hossain confirmed that the Chief Adviser would attend the upcoming UN General Assembly with a brief visit to New York. Discussions with Myanmar on Rohingya repatriation are currently stalled due to the ongoing civil war in the country.
