In 2023, Grameenphone Ltd’s profit margin was approximately seven times higher than that of Robi Axiata Ltd. Grameenphone’s margin stood at 21 %, significantly surpassing Robi Axiata’s 3 %, as indicated by their financial reports. Despite Robi Axiata having a smaller customer base than Grameenphone, it incurred nearly equivalent expenses in marketing products, maintaining its network, and other operational costs. This relatively higher cost structure reduced its profit margin compared to revenue.
Robi Axiata’s profits in proportion to its assets and equity also lagged behind those of Grameenphone. Robi Axiata mentioned that while its profit margin may be lower, it has been steadily growing, and overall profits have increased alongside revenue. In 2023, Robi Axiata’s profit surged by 75 % year-on-year to Tk 320 crore, whereas Grameenphone’s profit increased by 9.9 % to Tk 3,307 crore.
