The High Court has ordered the seizure of the Liberia-flagged ship “MV Panagia Kanala,” carrying coal from Indonesia for the Rampal Power Plant. The order was issued in response to a case filed by Chinese company CCX Shipping Co Limited. The court has also directed the Mongla Sea Port Authority to suspend issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the vessel. Nonetheless, the unloading process will proceed within a specified timeframe, ensuring delivery of the coal to the power plant in compliance with the court’s instructions.
The Liberian cargo vessel “MV Panagia Kanala” arrived at Mongla Port in Bangladesh with a cargo of 31,000 tonnes of coal for the Rampal Thermal Power Plant. Departing from Indonesia on June 26, 2023, the ship anchored at the port on July 13. Unloading of the coal began in the afternoon, and it will be transferred to the power plant’s dedicated jetty using lighter/coaster ships.
