Healthcare expenditure may rise in FY25 as import duties on treatment machinery may increase from 1% to 10%. Referral hospitals, importing over 200 types of medical equipment duty-free, face this hike. Conditions for import include being a hospital with at least 100 or 150 seats, maintaining modern equipment, providing advanced treatment, and previously reserving 5% of beds for poor patients. This provision was scrapped due to pressure from hospitals, alleged misallocation, and levied a 1% duty. Referral hospitals include BIRDEM, National Heart Foundation, Evercare Hospital, and others.
