Heavy rain in several districts of Bangladesh has led to a surge in prices for chickens, vegetables, onions, and green chillies, causing distress for consumers. Prices of many vegetables increased by Tk 10-20 per kg, while green chillies saw a substantial rise of Tk 100-120 per kg.
Notable price hikes include brinjal at Tk 90-100 per kg, pointed gourd and okra at Tk 60-80, bitter gourd at Tk 80-100, clocasia stem at Tk 100-110, cucumber at Tk 60-80, and bottle gourd at Tk 50-80 per piece. Green chillies were selling at Tk 220-260 per kg. The incessant rains in northern and north-western districts caused damage to vegetable and chilli fields, reducing the supply and raising prices.
Broiler chicken prices increased by Tk 10-15 per kg, selling at Tk 195-210 per kg. Potato prices rose by Tk 2.0-5.0 per kg, and onion prices increased by Tk 10 per kg, surpassing government-fixed rates.
