The price of hilsa in Bogra has surged ahead of Pahela Baisakh, rising from 800 to 1000 taka per kg in the past week. Despite the steep increase, buyers are reluctant to make purchases. Only four shops in Fateh Ali market have hilsa available, with limited stock. Raw hilsa weighing 600 grams to 1 kilogram is being sold at Tk 1700 to Tk 1800 per kg, while store hilsa weighing 800 to 1.5 kg is priced at Tk 1600 per kg, up from Tk 800 to Tk 1200 per kg last week. Sellers attribute the price hike to the festival season and the prohibition on hilsa fishing, resulting in low supply and high demand.
