Five associations representing the ICT sector have come together to urge the government to extend tax exemptions for businesses offering software and IT-enabled services (ITES) until 2031, citing the critical role of their development in achieving the government’s vision for a Smart Bangladesh.
The associations include the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), Bangladesh Association of Contact Centre & Outsourcing (BACCO), Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), and e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB).
The BASIS President emphasized the nascent stage of the IT sector’s growth, stating that taxing the sector at this crucial juncture would not yield significant tax revenue and could hinder its potential. He highlighted the importance of tax exemptions for facilitating the expansion of the local IT sector and contributing to the government’s vision for a Smart Bangladesh.
