The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) is seeking government loan waivers for its Solar Home System (SHS) program due to the decline caused by rural electrification initiatives. IDCOL has requested a waiver of Tk210 crore for Grameen Shakti, a participant in the SHS program. The rapid expansion of the power grid and free SHS distribution have impacted SHS program sustainability, leading to payment collection challenges for participating organizations (POs). IDCOL’s letter to the Economic Relations Division outlines the financial strain faced by POs, including Grameen Shakti. Grameen Shakti had earlier proposed a 50% waiver on its outstanding balance of Tk420.51 crore. IDCOL has previously approved partial waivers for other POs under its program. The decision on Grameen Shakti’s waiver is pending government approval.
