IDRA has mandated that no one can use the CEO title in any insurance company without prior approval. Additionally, CEO appointments on a current charge basis are prohibited. Until IDRA approves a CEO, an additional managing director may serve as “CEO (in-charge).” No official below the CEO or CEO (in-charge) can sign correspondence with IDRA. This decision follows observations that many insurers, especially life insurance firms, have been operating with acting CEOs for years. Bangladesh has 82 insurance companies—36 life insurers and 46 non-life insurers.
