iFarmer has launched its first procurement hub in the Birganj area of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh. The hub aims to help farmers collect their produce and ensure fair crop prices during the post-harvest period. With storage facilities of around 20,000 metric tons, the hub is located in the middle of local markets, allowing farmers to sell their crops without incurring losses.
The hub has already started operations by collecting paddy, rice, maize, and mustard seeds using a digital scale meter service for transparency. Currently, 500 farmers, 50 retailers, 50 Foriya, and 60 suppliers are listed on the hub. The co-founder and chief executive officer of iFarmer said the hub encourages farmers to produce good-quality crops and supports them in ensuring fair earnings. The initiative is expected to play an important role in the journey of smart agriculture. iFarmer plans to set up more procurement hubs in other districts besides Dinajpur.
