Import Tariff Reduction for Appliance Parts Likely to Continue for 3 Years

Industry: Home Appliances

The Bangladesh government plans to extend reduced import tariffs for components used in manufacturing washing machines, refrigerators, and computers for up to three years. This move aims to phase out the exemption culture gradually. The current benefits for air conditioner and refrigerator manufacturing will continue until June 2026, though customs duty on imported compressors will rise from 5% to 10%. Similarly, duty concessions for mobile phone parts will be extended to June 2026 and for computer parts to June 2027. Prefabricated steel building materials will also enjoy extended benefits. To protect domestic industries, the government will impose minimum prices on imported compressors and raise duties on water purification equipment from 10% to 15%. Additionally, concessional duties on CCTV and ATM components will continue until June 2026, though their import duty will increase from 1% to 5%. Import duties on polypropylene yarn and manganese will be reduced to support carpet and ferroalloy manufacturing.
