The National Board of Revenue (NBR) anticipates a rise in income tax return filers to 4.5 lakh by the end of the current financial year, up by 1.5 lakh from the previous year. The number of Tax Identification Number (TIN) holders is also expected to increase, reaching 45 lakh, compared to 30 lakh last year. NBR aims to improve the tax-GDP ratio by emulating best practices from developed countries, implementing Tax Return Preparer (TRP) regulations, and introducing an online return filing system. Last year, 36,62,081 income tax returns were submitted, resulting in a tax deposit of Tk 5,901.65 crore, with 99,69,000 TIN holders.
