Inflation Rate Increased to 9.81% in March

Economic Tag: Inflation

The point-to-point inflation in Bangladesh rose slightly to 9.81% in March compared to 9.67% in February, owing to the rising prices of food at 9.87% and non-food at 9.64% items during Ramadan which were at 9.44% and 9.33% respectively in February. Since March 2023, the overall rate of inflation has remained above 9%.

The executive director of the Institute for Inclusive Finance and Development mentioned that the prices of several food items here go up every time Ramadan rolls around. Moreover, non-food item prices have increased as a result of Eid. The cost of power has also increased recently due to government action. The currency crisis, meanwhile, has not improved. Even though inflation was marginally lower in February than it was in January, all of these variables have contributed to an increase in inflation in March. Despite the implementation of government initiatives aimed at controlling inflation, high rates of inflation continue to exist. In addition, the government established prices for 29 products, although this hasn’t worked.
