Inquiry launched into Tk 4,000 Crore Misappropriation at Dhaka Airport

Industry: Aviation

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into alleged misappropriation of Tk4,000 crore in the construction of Dhaka Airport’s third terminal. Project costs reportedly ballooned from Tk7,000 crore to Tk22,000 crore due to corruption, design alterations, and the use of substandard equipment. Allegations include embezzling Tk900 crore during soil testing, syndicate-driven irregularities, and falsely reporting locally purchased equipment as imports. ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain pledged a thorough investigation. Former project director AKM Maksudul Islam, recently removed, denied involvement. Aviation experts and stakeholders have raised concerns over inflated costs, citing substandard materials and equipment. Initially planned to be operational by October 2024, the terminal’s completion has now been delayed to December 2025.
