Bangladesh Services Limited, owner of InterContinental Dhaka, has faced nine consecutive years of losses, with Tk78 crore lost in FY24 and accumulated losses reaching Tk700 crore. The company, listed since 1984, has not paid dividends since FY14.
Renovation expenses of Tk732 crore, funded by a Tk573 crore Agrani Bank loan, now inflated to Tk1,000 crore, and the hotel’s inconvenient location, 15km from the airport, contribute to its struggles. Despite a revaluation increasing NAV per share to Tk225.20, the company reported a Tk30 crore loss in Q1 FY25. Previously Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, it was rebranded as InterContinental in 2018 but continues to underperform.
