In November 2023, Internet banking transactions in Bangladesh experienced a notable 5.07% increase compared to the previous month, totaling Tk82,866 crore. This growth is part of a broader trend, with a remarkable 200% surge in year-on-year transactions. The surge in popularity is attributed to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, accelerating the shift towards online banking.
Islami Bank emerged as a dominant player in-app transactions, followed by Dutch-Bangla, City, BRAC, and Eastern banks. While Internet banking thrived, mobile banking transactions saw a marginal 1% decrease in November, and card transactions, including ATM, POS, CRM, and e-commerce, also experienced a 1% dip, amounting to Tk42,638 crore. Foreign currency transactions through cards declined to Tk798 crore, indicating challenges related to dollar shortages and reduced new card issuances by banks.
