Bangladesh’s internet penetration rate has been declining for the past several months, dropping from 80.60% in August 2024 to 74.40% in January 2025. The decline is driven by a decrease in mobile broadband users, which fell from 98.93 million in November to 96.97 million in January. 4G remains the dominant technology, with 106.15 million users in January, while 3G subscriptions declined to 3.20 million. Fixed broadband penetration showed slight growth, increasing from 7.87% in November to 8.03% in December and January. Teledensity, measuring total voice and internet subscriptions, also declined. Experts highlight affordability, network quality, and infrastructure expansion as key areas to address for reversing the downward trend and ensuring broader digital inclusion.
