Internet Users Grow by 1 Million

Industry: Mobile, Telecom & Mobile

Bangladesh saw a notable increase of 1 million internet users in August 2023, bringing the total number of internet subscribers to 131.9 million, according to data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). This marks the seventh consecutive month of growth since February.

The increase in August was primarily attributed to a surge in mobile internet users, with 90.79% of total internet subscribers in the country using mobile networks, totaling 119.7 million users. Mobile network operators attribute this surge to the growing popularity of various digital services beyond social media, signaling an evolving landscape of consumer preferences and increasing reliance on digital platforms for diverse services.

This shift has broadened the scope of mobile internet usage, with subscribers now using mobile networks for over-the-top media, gaming, and more. Meanwhile, the number of broadband internet subscribers remained unchanged at 12.1 million in August.
