Gas from Bhola’s three fields will be supplied to industrial zones near the capital starting December 21, 2023 addressing gas shortages. Sundarban Gas Company, a state-owned entity, has partnered with Intraco Refueling Station for the delivery. Initial supply to Gazipur and nearby areas will be 5 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), benefiting Graphics Textile Ltd as the first client. Intraco will charge Tk 47.60 per unit, higher than the current industrial rate of Tk 30. The move marks Bangladesh’s first inter-regional gas transportation. Under a 10-year contract, Intraco plans to increase capacity to 25mmcfd. This alleviates energy concerns amid a 30.5% decline in overall natural gas production.
