The assets of Islamic banks decreased by more than Tk 13,000 crore within one month, according to a report by Bangladesh Bank. On April 23, 32 banks and four Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) borrowed Tk 13,200 crore from the central bank under repo and liquidity support facilities through auction. Commercial banks are still borrowing from Bangladesh Bank to address the liquidity crisis. During the auction, 18 banks and four NBFIs borrowed Tk 7,563 crore through the seven-day repo facility, while 14 banks borrowed Tk 5,457 crore through the one-day liquidity support facility. The interest rates were 8.10% and 8% respectively.
