The co-chairman of the Jatiyo Party (JaPa) has been permitted by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission to sell his entire 0.48% stake (33.33 lakh shares) in South Bangla Agricultural and Commerce (SBAC) Bank.
The market value of the stake is approximately Tk3.5 crore. The lock-in period for co-chairman’s shares was originally three years, set to expire on August 10, 2024. However, BSEC issued a no-objection certificate for the stake sale to non-sponsor-director shareholders before the lock-in period ended. Post-transfer, the shares will remain locked for the rest of the period in the new owners’ accounts, with no margin loans allowed.
SBAC Bank, listed in 2021, raised Tk100 crore and reported a 2022 profit of Tk58.96 crore, paying a 3.5% cash dividend. The co-chair’s participation in national elections was unavailable for comment due to campaign commitments.
