Japan will provide a grant aid of ¥575 million to Bangladesh’s Armed Forces Division under the Official Security Assistance framework. The agreement aims to strengthen the capabilities of armed forces and related organizations.
The grant includes the transfer of four patrol ships to Bangladesh, enhancing Dhaka’s deterrence capabilities amid concerns about Beijing’s maritime expansion. This move follows Japan’s agreement to transfer coastal radar equipment to the Philippines under the same framework.
Established in 2023, the Official Security Assistance program fosters security cooperation, contributing to international peace. The grant will support Bangladesh in improving its Navy’s monitoring, surveillance, and disaster relief capabilities, crucial for maritime security in the Bay of Bengal and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
