Japan has committed 495 million Japanese Yen ($3.21 million) for human resources development in Bangladesh through the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS). This agreement was formalized by representatives from both nations, including the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and officials from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance. Since 2002, 525 Bangladeshi officials have benefited from the JDS program, studying in Japan. In 2024, Bangladesh ranked second globally in the number of JDS fellows. The initiative underscores Japan’s ongoing support for Bangladesh’s development, which has included $32.37 billion in bilateral aid since independence, encompassing soft loans, grants, and technical assistance for various projects.
