Yamaha motorcycles are now being manufactured in Bangladesh under the strict supervision of Yamaha’s technical officers from Japan, ensuring adherence to global standards. This development follows the approval of Yamaha for the production and release of motorcycles in the country. ACI Motors, in collaboration with Yamaha, operates a motorcycle factory in Bangladesh, and motorcycles produced there are equivalent in quality to those manufactured in Yamaha factories worldwide.
Alongside Yamaha, other foreign brands like Honda, Suzuki, Bajaj, TVS, and Hero are also being manufactured in Bangladesh, with approximately 90 percent of the country’s annual sales of around 600,000 motorcycles being domestically produced. The motorcycle industry in Bangladesh received government support, resulting in the establishment of ten factories and significant investments, providing direct and indirect employment to nearly 200,000 individuals. However, the industry is facing challenges, including a lack of policy consistency, limited development in allied industries, and declining market demand. The decline in motorcycle sales is attributed to factors such as increased prices, reduced purchasing power, draft policies limiting driving conditions, import issues, and public concerns about road accidents.
